H.E. AMBASSADOR BAPAGA TEPUPILEKA SERGE DIDIER
Appointed as the new Ambassador of the Democratic Republic of Congo in the Republic of Zambia and the Republic of Malawi by the President of the DRC, His Excellency Felix Antoine Tshisekedi Tshilombo, to foster the good diplomatic relations that exist between the DRC and the Republic of Zambia; as well as revamping the relations between the DRC and the Republic of Malawi, H.E. Mr. Serge Didier Bapaga is an international relations expert and project management. Prior to this appointment, Mr. Bapaga worked as a consultant. He speaks French, English, Dutch, Afrikaans, and Portuguese. He specialises in public diplomacy and divides his time advising on trade relations. He has a bachelor's degree in International Relations from Coventry University, United Kingdom.

M. Serge Didier Bapaga est expert en relations internationales et en gestion de projets. Avant cette nomination, M. Bapaga a travaillé comme consultant. Il parle français, anglais, néerlandais, afrikaans et portugais. Il se spécialise dans la diplomatie publique et partage son temps à conseiller sur les relations commerciales. Il est titulaire d'une licence en relations internationales de l'Université de Coventry, au Royaume-Uni.
A BRIEF HISTORY OF THE DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF CONGO
With an area of 2,345,095 km², equivalent to that of Western Europe, the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) is the largest country in Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA). DRC is endowed with exceptional natural resources, including minerals such as cobalt and copper, hydro-power potential, significant arable land, immense biodiversity, and the world’s second-largest rain forest.
Political Context
Félix Antoine Tshisekedi Tshilombo, son of Etienne Tshisekedi, the country’s longstanding opposition leader, won the December 2018 presidential election. He succeeded Joseph Kabila, who had led the country for 18 years, in the first peaceful transition of power in the DRC’s history.
Economic Situation
After a pandemic-induced slowdown to 1.7% in 2020, economic growth rebounded to 5.7% in 2021 on strength in the mining sector and a recovery in the non-mining sectors. The mining sector remains the key driver of growth with copper and cobalt production rising by 12.0 and 7.6 percent, respectively.

• Contexte politique
Félix Antoine Tshisekedi Tshilombo, fils d'Etienne Tshisekedi, chef de l'opposition de longue date du pays, a remporté l'élection présidentielle de décembre 2018. Il a succédé à Joseph Kabila, qui avait dirigé le pays pendant 18 ans, dans la première transition pacifique du pouvoir de l'histoire de la RDC.
• Situation économique
Après un ralentissement induit par la pandémie à 1,7 % en 2020, la croissance économique a rebondi à 5,7 % en 2021 grâce à la vigueur du secteur minier et à une reprise dans les secteurs non miniers. Le secteur minier reste le principal moteur de la croissance, la production de cuivre et de cobalt augmentant respectivement de 12,0 et 7,6 %.
